Mumbai
Mumbai is home to an estimated population of 20
million.  It has an area of 437.71 km2 and a
density of 29,000 people per square km. The
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai
(MCGM) maintains only 4.4 km2 of open  spaces
for public spaces spread across the city - that is
just about 1% of its total area.

Although millions of rupees are spent for the
well-being of less privileged children residing in
Mumbai, less then 2%
of this money is being
used for recreational activities. Even if the resources
and time for play were in place, Mumbai has
such extreme space restrictions that there is
no place for play.

If we are to create a development model to scale
across India, there is no better city than Mumbai to understand children’s issues and create need-based programmes, as the diversity of communities and the intensity of issues mirror that of the whole of India. We have worked now in 3 different slum communities, in partnership with over 40 CBOs (Community Based Organisations) and NGOs and worked with the BMC (municipal schools) and government run institutions in the City.

Chandrapur
Magic Bus has started a Training of Trainers programme in Chandrapur and set up a temporary monitoring office, as part of our partnership with UNICEF through the International Inspiration, Sport for Development India Programme. Through this programme Magic Bus will train 66 trainers who, in the first 2 years of the programme, will train 840 community sports coaches to work with children across 420 villages.  The trainers will then go on to train community sports coaches on an ongoing basis and take sport for development programmes to many more villages.

Andhra Pradesh

Medak

Magic Bus has started a Training of Trainers programme in Medak using the same model as Chandrapur.  During the two-year project 62 trainers will be trained by Magic Bus who will train 390 community sports coaches who will work in 780 villages.

Delhi

Magic Bus is also about to open a monitoring office in Delhi, and launch a training of trainers programme that will reach out to an estimated 1,000 children in year one. Again this programme is part of the UNICEF partnership.
