In 2006 we structured our work into four projects, aligned with our strategies of social and financial sustainability. Magic Bus projects are our intervention models, ie how and where we work with children. The mission and goals are the same across each project, but children in each environment have specific needs and often require a slightly different approach, something we learn about during our needs assessment phase each year.

Magic Bus intervenes directly in four slum communities (Dharavi, Mankhurd, Bombay Port Trust and Colaba), where the focus is on community development: training community youth to take ownership for developing their own communities and engaging the wider community, such as parents, through the platform of the Magic Bus football programme to bring about change. more...

Magic Bus partners with other child-focused organisations in order to support them with their own objectives and compliment their focus on childrens' needs such as formal education and health. The project also enables children in some of the most difficult conditions to reach communities to take part in Magic Bus programmes: communities where other NGOs have had a longer history of working and where Magic Bus may find it difficult to work directly. The eventual aim is to train the NGO teachers and NGO peer leaders to intergrate Magic Bus methodology into their own programmes and thereby allow more children to experience sport for development. more...

Magic Bus partners with government and privately run institutions. The programme provides a healthy environment for the children by engaging them in positive activities and allowing them to grow and channel their energies. The programme helps prepare them for life outside the institution and equips the children with some of the skills required for this transition. Our aim is to empower youth within the institutions to become peer leaders and run programmes within the institution for the younger children. more...

Magic Bus has worked in 2 municipal schools over the years in order to assess how our curriculum can be integrated with that provided by the state. We continue to work directly with children in 1 school in partnership with an NGO: CHIP. Our wider schools project now involves training school teachers in sport for development methodology, as part of our partnership with UNICEF. more...
