35% of our current delivery team are former participants on the Magic Bus programme or come from our participant communities. Our intense staff development programme and personal learning journey that we put our staff through now forms the basis of an extremely powerful programme for training trainers, enabling us to increase our outreach in a sustainable manner.
After 10 years of training young people to be our own delivery staff and working with NGO partners, we have recognised our strength in developing young leaders and hence the foundations of our growth plan will involve training other trainers.
In 2008 a partnership was launched, working as technical advisors to UNICEF on a programme that brings together the UK Government (UK Sport) and the Indian Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sport to take sport for development to communities across India a project known as ‘International Inspiration’. The pilot stage of the project sees Magic Bus training trainers in three new locations, Medak in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrapur in rural Maharastra and in Delhi.
This programme also includes training municipal schools teachers in Mumbai in partnership with UNICEF and the BMC (Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation).
Along side this pilot programme, we are investing nearly 40 per cent of our annual programme budget in researching a need-based curriculum and validating our work to enable this scalability. For more information please go to our page on Monitoring & Evaluation.
South-South Exchanges
UK Sport has for the last few years sponsored a number of Magic Bus programme staff to visit projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Staff members have visited MYSA Kenya in the Mathare slums in Nairobi and SCORE in South Africa.
Magic Bus was also visited by Peter Serry formally part of MYSA who conducted a coaches’ training programme for Magic Bus, supported by KNVB and Nike. For more information go to our partner page.
Vietnam
For the last two year, KNVB have invited one of our senior programme managers to run programmes for community sports coaches in Vietnam.
