| Monitoring & Evaluation |
Monitoring and evaluation is an intergral part of the Magic Bus programme. Each project has a monitoring officer, responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of the programme. This ensures efficiency and effectiveness across Magic Bus.
We are currently implementing a three-stage Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework in order to evaluate the ongoing impact and success of our programmes. This model is an adaptation of Professor Fred Coalter’s evaluation framework. In 2005 Magic Bus, UNICEF and UK Sport commissioned Professor Coalter to create the first draft of an M&E Manual for sport for development projects that provides the foundation for this work. (For a copy of the this manual please go to our library.)
The development happened in three phases:
Phase 1: In this phase we focussed on developing the M&E tools & processes for programme and organizational efficiency and effectiveness. We have already developed tools around the inputs and outputs i.e. – Material and financial resources, people, programme and participants.
Phase 2: In this phase, we laid down the methodology and tools for measuring sporting outcomes for football and handball among the participants. We have also assessed the organizational capacity and resources to define and measure, personal and social development in Magic Bus children.
Phase 3: In this phase we stressed on the implementation of the plan and process laid for measuring the personal and social development among our children. At the end of this phase, we evaluated the process and outcomes. We also evaluated the entire 3-year work in line with our laid objectives. The M&E manual, will be a synergy of academics and practice
The Magic Bus M&E manual, which will be a synergy of academics and practice, will be ready by end of Dec 2009.
Sustainability Research: IDS UK – Comic Relief Peer Leader Research
Magic Bus is participating in a three-joint research initiative launched by Comic Relief and UK Sport’scharity arm, International Development through Sport (IDS UK), which aims to:
As part of this initiative we will study the impact of our sports programme on our
peer leaders in order to measure the impact of the peer leader training on individual levels of self efficacy and self esteem, and gauge the potential sustainability and perceived value of the peer leader programme.
More details of this project can be found on the IDS website.
