Inauguration of the Magic Bus centre for Learning & Development

The 20 acre centre surrounded by the Sahayadri mountain range with lush flora and fauna was inaugurated with the first 2-day residential Explorer camp on 14th October 2006, with an arti, tikka, and peda for the children. There were 37 children who attended the camp, with 20 girls and 17 boys.

The kids were very excited to be on the campsite for the first time. The bunk beds were the biggest attraction. With many children vying the top bunk, there was Geeta who feigned illness so that she could spend an entire day on her bed!

Like little knights wearing the helmets and seat harness, they were ready to conquer the rock climbing tower. The river was yet another expression of freedom and joy. The children cooled their heels in the river, splashed water and practised their swimming moves in the knee deep water.

Hats off to the innovative fundraising efforts by the BDHC team..!!!!

The British Deputy High Commission office has been most supportive of Magic Bus. They celebrated their annual office day raising substantial funds to buy equipments, materials for the opening of the centre and spent an entire day volunteering in cleaning up dormitories, setting up the kitchen and weeding the football pitch.
The staff came up with unique ways of raising money which was a month long process. They sold candy, homemade food, raised funds by setting up makeovers in the office, went off scurrying on a treasure hunt and only returned when the treasure was acheived.

Thank you friends, you all have set the bar for innovative fund raising!

New developments at the centre

Since its inauguration, the centre looks different every week, with our gardeners, working hard with the landscaping and planting shade and fruit trees.

The RANGOONWALA RESOURCE centre building, in its final construction stage, will house the Audio Visual Room, Library, Admin Office, Activity area, CFO Residence, and an infirmary.

The full size football ground will be ready to use by end of March. A mini ground is also ready to be used for football, handball, volleyball and other outdoor sport.

Keeping pace with the progress of work we have appointed Sandip for Maintenance, Mangesh as a fulltime gardener and Ujwal for accounts.
