Summer Party 2006

Magic Bus launched its 10th anniversary celebrations recently by throwing a fundraising Twenty20 party at City Hall, London. Over 150 attendees from the City were treated to curry, beer and a live screening of the England v. South Africa World Cup game from the comfort of the Mayor’s Living Room.

Sponsors: The England and Wales Cricket Board and the Premier League, along with Tessa Jowell MP, Olympics Minister, came together to demonstrate their support for the charity and their belief in the power of sport to change lives.

Mark Spears, Magic Bus Trustee who hosted the event, stated “Sport is such an international business that people often don’t realise what goes on behind the scenes. Magic Bus harnesses sport to bring about real change and provide children marginalised by society with hope and positive role models in their life”.

Former England cricketer Geraint Jones fielded some cricketing questions from Dan Snow and the City crowd in a lively evening that raised over £10,000 for the charity.

Magic Bus was set up 10 years ago in India, to create opportunities for children living in extreme poverty. It runs life skills education programmes for 7 to 18 year olds across India, using sport as a tool to teach children to believe in themselves and challenge perceptions. Weekly sports sessions, camps and day trips have helped 60,000 children in the last 10 years to overcome barriers and choose a different future
